Revestimento com papel de alumínio :: Mixed media foiling technique

Hoje partilho um trabalho realizado há uns tempos. Consiste em revestir objetos com papel de alumínio. Não registei cada passo em fotografia, mas podem ver o processo neste tutorial. Como base podem ser usadas caixas (de cartão, de madeira, metálicas) e também superfícies lisas (que mostrarei num próximo post).

Today I'm sharing a project from a while ago. It's about coating an object with aluminium foil. I didn't take a picture of each step, but you can see the process in this tutorial. You may use boxes (made from cardboard, wood, metal) and also flat surfaces (that I'll show in a upcoming post).

O revestimento é feito com:

The coating is made from:

1 - arame metálico ou outros objetos (que são colados na superfície para criar o relevo pretendido)

1 - metal wire or other objects (these will be glued onto the surface to create the desired crevasses and shapes)

2 - cola (que dê para aplicar com pincel; usei cola de madeira)

2 - glue (preferable one that can be applied with a brush)

3 - papel de alumínio (que antes de ser colado pode ser amarrotado para dar um ar envelhecido)

3 - aluminium foil (that before being glued onto the surface, can be wrinkled to give an aged or distressed look)

4 - tinta acrílica; neste caso, usei uma combinação de 2 cores. Primeiro pintei toda a superfície (já com o papel de alumínio) de vermelho, e deixei secar bem. Depois pintei com tinta preta, que fui removendo sem deixar secar, com a ajuda de um papel. Assim a tinta preta vai preencher as cavidades e rugas do papel de alumínio, e deixa visível a cor principal, neste caso vermelho.

4 - acrylic paint; in this case I used a combination of two colors. First I painted the entire surface (already with the aluminium foil) in red and let it dry. Then I painted with black paint, wich I removed with a tissue paper before it was dry. By doing so, the black paint filled the crevasses, and allowed the main color to show.

No final utilizei uma tinta metálica (dourada, neste caso), que apliquei levemente com um dedo sobre os relevos.

In the end I used a metallic paint (golden, in this case), that I gently applied by rubbing some of this paint with a finger on top of the raised shapes.

A tinta metálica está no frasco pequeno; o mesmo efeito pode ser obtido com tinta acrílica.

The metallic paint is in the small jar; the same effect can be obtained using acrylic paint, though.

Uma nota final - pode ser usada qualquer combinação de cores. Uma cor principal, que é aplicada em 1º lugar a toda a superfície  e uma cor secundária, que irá deixar vestígios onde pretendermos.

A final note - any combination of colors can be used. The principal color is applied first, to the surface, and then a second color will be applied to leave traces wherever we want them to be.
